How to upload folders or files to your Minecraft server

One of the most important parts of having your own Minecraft server is being able to update files to your server. Either when you want to upload your own world, mods or anything else.  Uploading files individually is very easy, Sadly since server interfaces are accessed via your browser it is impossible to just drag and drop folders to your server like you do with single files. However there are plenty of easy ways to work around this.

How to upload files:

Uploading files is very simple you can just drag and drop the file in the folder you want the file to be. Or additionally you can open the folder you want to upload a file to and click the upload button.

Then you can select the file you want to upload and it will be uploaded to the correct folder.

How to upload folders:

I am assuming you have more than one file to upload and you don't want to upload each file individually, since doing this with certain worlds or let alone modpacks can take hours.

Luckily it is not very difficult to upload folders.

There are two main ways to upload folders to your Minecraft server either by archiving and unarchiving files or by using a File Transfer Protocol app like filezilla.

The first option to upload folders as an archived file is easiest, however doing it via a file transfer protocol app which I will call FTP from now on also has his advantages.

1: Compress the folder you want to upload, to do this, right click the folder you want to upload and find an option that says compress. On my PC it looks like this, yours might look differently

2: After it has been compressed go back to the paragraph above and upload it like you would upload any other file

3: Now you want to unarchive the folder you uploaded. To do this you right click the compressed file on your server and select uncompress.

4: Now you successfully uploaded the folder to your Minecraft server.

The other option is to use a FTP. A FTP is an app that allows you to interact with the server folders from you pc.

There are several apps that allow you to do this for example:

Cloudmounter
Filezilla
WinSCP

Please see our guide on how to connect an FTP to your server.

After you have the FTP connected and you are connected to your server you can interact with your server via the app and you can drag and drop folders, change configs and do anything you want. If you want to use your server for anything that is a bit more difficult I highly recommend you connect a FTP to your server.
